Discover Primary Science and Maths Award

Fantastic News!

Crumlin N.S. have been successful in receiving the Science Foundation Ireland Discover Science and Maths Award for 2018. Our plaque was delivered earlier this week. Big thanks to all our little scientists and wonderful parents who helped us in organising various science, technology and maths activities both inside and outside the school. The pupils had a great year with all their extra days out, school visitors and workshops. Well done C.N.S!

Thank You!

Huge thanks to Elizabeth Conroy, Anne Garvey, Jane Maher and  Rose Mullins who carried out the Children of The Eucharist Adoration Programme with our Second Class students throughout the year. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and wish to extend their appreciation. 🙂

Huge congratulations to our Second Class students who made their First Holy Communion on Saturday. Each and every one of you did a wonderful job and made us all so proud. We would also like to express our thanks to our altar servers, choir and Fr. Howley who celebrated our mass with us.

2nd & 3rd Class Showcase

Today 2nd and 3rd Class hosted an Electricity Expo for Junior, Seniors and First Class. The students had the opportunity to demonstrate all their knowledge about the topic and show the other classes some electricity experiments. They also discussed electrical safety and what shapes were used to construct their lighthouses. Here are some photos from our event…….

Last week, 2nd and 3rd class were focusing on electricity. They discovered how to make a circuit, a circuit with a switch and what static electricity is. They predicted and experimented with materials that make conductors/insulators. They also designed lighthouses and fitted the circuits with the light bulb on top.

Sacrament of First Penance

Congratulations to the Second Class pupils who made their First Confession yesterday evening in Brooklodge Church. You were all fantastic! Thanks also to Fr. Howley for celebrating this sacrament with us.

The Water Cycle

2nd Class have being studying the four stages of the water cycle: evaporation, condensation, precipitation and collection.

This experiment shows the four steps. We placed boiling water in the bowl and covered the bowl with cling film. We placed an ice pack on top of the cling film and left it for a few minutes. Later, droplets (condensation) had formed where the hot vapour (evaporation) had met the cold surface. Eventually the droplets became too large and dropped back in to the water below (precipitation & collection).

Hearing and Seeing Sound

This week 3rd Class were learning all about sound. They carried out an experiment where they could hear and see sound. First, the children banged the wooden spoon off a baking tin. The sound wave vibrations caused the rice to jump allowing the pupils to see sound also.

Scratch Programming

2nd and 3rd Class have been programming over  the previous few weeks learning lots of new scripts in Scratch….
