Write A Book Project

Well done to 1st – 6th Class students who participated in this year’s ‘Write A Book Project’ in association with The Galway Education Centre. The books will be swapped with another school in Galway this week. Books will be returned to pupils once again in a few weeks time.

Floating & Sinking

This week, 2nd Class discovered that objects that are less dense float, whilst objects that are more dense sink. They also designed a boat from plasticine that was able to carry passengers (paper clips).

Planting Cress Seeds

Last week, Junior Infants carried out an experiment: ‘Will Seeds Grow Without Light?’. One set of seeds received light and water whilst the other set was placed in a dark cupboard with water. They discovered that the set that got both light and water grew the best and were green. The other set grew a little but were yellow and not very healthy looking. Well done to our Junior Scientists!

Absorption

Yesterday, we conducted an experiment to test which material would best absorb water. Out of newspaper, magazine, kitchen paper and plastic, we discovered that kitchen paper was the most absorbent and that plastic is waterproof. We performed a Fair Test giving each material the same amount of water and the same time to soak. The variable was the material changing each time we carried out the experiment.

Land Yachts

Last Week, 2nd and 3rd Class designed Land Yachts that were powered by wind energy. We had lots of fun choosing our materials, creating our design and making our Land Yachts. We encountered some problems along the way but we overcame them by testing them and in the end we had a race. We measured how far the Land Yachts traveled under the fair test of equal time to each team. After the race, we decided what went well and if we were to design them again, what would we do differently.

Making some snow clay

Seniors and First used cornflour and body lotion to create some snow clay.  They investigated how the feel and function of the clay changed as more body lotion was added.

Maths Week

Some pictures enjoying our maths station games during maths week.

Space Fun!

Senior Infants & First really enjoyed the theme of space.  We had great time learning all about the sun, moon, gravity and planets. Great fun was had during our Aistear time to explore the theme even more.  To settle our inquisitive minds a few experiments were carried out to find out more information on gravity and meteorites.  First Class ended the topic by creating some fabulous projects on their favourite planet.
