Bike Week 2017

Well done to all the children who made a special effort to cycle to school during National Bike Week. We would like to express our thanks to Ray Foley (Green Schools Representative) and Kevin Joyce for accompanying students from 3rd to 6th on a cycle of our area.

1st & 2nd Class School Tour

1st & 2nd class enjoyed a very active school tour this year with ‘Let’s Go’ in the NUIG Kingfisher Gymnasium, topped off with an ice-cream on the way home. Here are some pictures from the day…..

Our Painted Lady Butterflies

Our butterflies have all emerged from their chrysalides.  Our first butterfly came out on Sunday evening and the children have had the joy of watching the other 3 emerge during school hours.  We knew when the butterfly was going to emerge because the chrysalis turned darker in colour.  Junior Infants have enjoyed watching and feeding the butterflies.  They will be released later on in the week.

Hand In Hand

Today we had two visitors from the charity Hand in Hand, Deirdre and Jennifer,  who were here to collect a cheque of  €317  that was raised by the school for our non-uniform day.  Well done everyone!

Junior Infants have read The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and have been very lucky to watch our own caterpillars grow, shed their exoskeletons and crawl up to the top of their caterpillar cup, make their j-shape and form their chrysalis.  At the moment we are waiting patiently for the first butterfly to emerge from their chrysalis.  Hopefully it will be very soon:-)

Here are some pictures of our caterpillars life cycle…
